Re: Redfish Sarasota
The red fish basics. Mangrove points at high tide. Mullet schools attract reds throw bait into the middle of the school lures along the edges. when the moon is over 50% fishing is slow in the morning. (the most comfortable time for kayakers). Explore your favorite fishing area until you know the hol...

Caladesi slow day
Acres of mullet tide very slow but high. No bites, hours later no bites, one pin fish. Finally 1 bite 1 red fish unfortunately for the red it was over 20. One hour later after no bites I looked at the red on my stringer and saw a 4' shark moving in. It had already come within rod reach but broke off...

Re: no let up
Launched from Sunset Beach went south. Water was dead no mullet no bait dead. TROLLED A WHITE PADDLE TAIL FOR MILES CAUGHT 1 SMALL RED. On the way back after the tide turned I started to catch trout. One after another same lure chartreuse jig head white paddle tail. All were under size except 1 15 i...

Re: no let up
Fish action was curiously slow. Mullet were present but loafing along the bottom. No jumpers. The wind came on strong and I made it back to shore before noon. Good day on the water bad day fishing.

Re: Shark fishing Honeymoon Island / Caladesi
Out going tide sweeps you out incoming sweeps you in. The first channel marker outside the pass is where I used to shark fish. Anywhere along the first sandbar is prime, sharks cruise along the Gulf side. The wave action is sporty to say the least.

Re: Shark fishing Honeymoon Island / Caladesi
When the tide turns the pass has intense current. Near the gulf side it is almost impossible to paddle against it. If the wind is blowing against the tide the waves pop straight up. There are many large sharks in the pass there is no restriction about the park as long as you do not touch land. Addit...

Friday caledesi island
Friday morning I launched at Dunedin Causeway. Wind was relatively calm tide incoming. This was the first time I've been out this year so I was scouting my favorite spots. I started using a white paddle tail plastic on the way to the island. Suddenly there was a strike and then I pulled in a 3 lb tr...

sliding float rig
I read about a sliding float rig in Florida Sportsman magazine. When I use bait it is a trick to get it into the mangroves where the fish hang out. This seems to provide a consistant weight that should make casting accuracy easier. I have been there when 3' from the edge meant no bites and 1 foot me...

Re: saltwater_eat or catch and release
Stick to the limits and you won't go wrong. Keeping fish at the lower limit doesn't provide much fish steaks so I let them go. I only keep 1 red fish 22 in or better. This fish provides 2 people plenty of delicious filets. Catching one in this range is sufficiently rare that It is a treat when I get...

Re: What the Hell Is Going On Here or Actually Not Going On
Remember Hula Hoops? Intense activity followed by obscurity. Has Kayaking followed this trend? I am a fisherman and Kayaking sends a "Thrill" running up my leg. Those who Kayak see Eagles, Dolphins playing sea turtles close up sharks all in 3 feet of water. It is the best fishing trip insh...

windy day
Launched off sunset beach in Tarpon Springs. Wind was stiff and I almost didn't go. One throw with my net resulted in dozens of green backs! Now with this great bait I am committed. There were schools of fish cruising the flats very large fast moving wakes could have been mullet but no jumpers. They...
