Re: Bluegill on the fly in Punta Gorda
I was out the day before he was. Bummed for him because it was going off when I was there, guess he had a relatively slow day yesterday.

Bluegill on the fly in Punta Gorda
Made a trip to a new area I have been meaning to get out to for nearly a year now. Shell Creek is a freshwater creek system off of the Peace River in Punta Gorda. I had heard good reports of panfish and bass in the past from this location and put it up on my list of places to try out. The main reaso...

Re: Mid March fishing
Definitely will get into some trout and red action, but like DaveR said it can be breezy. Helps to launch on the side of the bay that the wind is coming from to stay a little protected, also helps to fish earlier in the morning. Find some moving mullet and you should find some fish

Palma Sola 5-24
Headed to Bradenton to fish Palma Sola Bay with my brother. He recently moved to Bradenton and neither of us had fished the area before so we decided to do some exploring. The bay is a lot larger than the areas I am used to fishing. The bay has a large quantity of fish able water, with tons of mangr...

Re: red lake
I haven't in a couple of years, but from my experience I have always had luck on smaller sized snook (15-20 inches) up in the lake area. Very shallow water without a lot of grass or oysters or bottom structure at all though. The canal that runs under the bridge on the way to the park is a bit deeper...

I chose to hit the same area I had success in last week in search of another slam. My plan was to hit the skinny area for a redfish, then immediately paddle across the bay to get to the spot I found the large snook hanging around my last time out. The first part worked like a charm, managed a snook ...

Englewood 5/9
Lately I have found a nice pattern in some really skinny water. An area right by one of my favorite launches that I have paddled past dozens of times was showing plenty of signs of life on a trip last week. Mullet were huddled up and causing quite a commotion. I saw a few tails in the area but the o...

Bluegill with a surprise
Set out yesterday morning in search of the ever elusive 10 inch bluegill. The weather was perfect for it, overcast without much wind. I began early by working a size 10 popper along the shoreline and picked off a couple of fish almost immediately. After that though, the action slowed dramatically. I...

Re: Sheepshead... on topwater!
Staged!?...Never caught one on artificial, let alone top water. Is it 2 separate fish? The hook is locked into the the left cheek on 2 photos and, the right on 1 photo. Very curious. Great catch otherwise. Two seperate fish. Larger one got a treble on the side of the face and is in the picture with...

Sheepshead... on topwater!
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TBGIjJ_s6mY/UYF-t6WY6mI/AAAAAAAAAPk/C5WZjPRzevg/s1600/image+(2).jpeg These fish were keyed in on pass crabs drifting out of Stump Pass in Lemon Bay and as a result were very willing to eat a topwater lure. I had never caught a sheepie on an artificial and never in a millio...

4-14-13 New Personal Best Snook
I took my brother out for a saltwater trip. He got really in to bass fishing while living in Korea and has kind of shyed away from saltwater fishing lately in favor of chasing largemouth in local lakes and ponds. He wanted to try and catch a few trout, snook or redfish to kind of mix things up. We m...

4-8-13 Gasparilla Sound/Placida Area
Got out to fish for a solo trip after getting off work in the morning. Fished about 3 hours from 7:30-10:30 and managed 5 fish. The best part about those 5 fish is that three of them were redfish. I have a hard time consistently targeting the reds in this certain spot but found a pattern that worked...
