Blackburn Point (Osprey) Launch Areas - Conflicts?

Their are two suitable, Sarasota County controlled, kayak/canoe launch areas on Blackburn Point Road in Osprey. The South launch point is new and using it to head South works well. However, using the South launch point when you intend to head North requires you to go under the swing bridge. Dependin...

Fresh water rods and inshore saltwater use

How important is it to select a new inshore spinning rod (no reel) designated as "saltwater" over a similar spinning rod designated as "freshwater"? My assumption is none, from a practical perspective, but I've been wrong before. Assume a good wash down after each use. My reels a...

Re: Braid question

Rik said..........For those with patience, here's a method to consider. 150 yards of braid is plenty. Beyond that you just have real expensive backing if you spool completly with braid. Using two spools, first put 150 yards of braid on and then fill the rest of the spool with backing to the correct...

Ocean Kayak Trident 11 Angler edition SOT review and photos

Recently, I found myself on the hunt for a smaller and lighter weight replacement for my previous kayak, a Tarpon 16, a boat that fully rigged out came in at about 90 lbs dry. A bit too heavy for my aging back, and a bit too long to be carried on top of a Toyota Corolla. The hunt for a smaller and l...

Re: saltwater_eat or catch and release

As a former and avid North Carolina Largemouth Bass fisherman, I've become accustomed to catch and release.

Nothing wrong with eating your catch, though.

Returning to the fold....kayak purchase time.....but......

Business pulled me away from the water for several years now, but now that I'm old, worn out, used up and discarded (retired), it's time to rejoin the fold. Appropriate used kayaks in Florida are about as scarce as Arctic Char in our waters, so new seems to be the way to go. Reading PF.com, I see th...

Re: would be cool to see more rig canoes.

Here is one I had some time back, a Mohawk Nova 16. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s41/mjrodney/MohawkNova16scan004.jpg A bit large for one person, it required a water jug at the bow to hold it down. Most of the outfitting came in the form of the requisite milk crate. And at that time, I fished ...

Paddle fishing stories don't get any better than this.

I enjoyed your tale, and photos, immensely.

Keeping the tackle box to a minimum

I am trying to minimize my paddle fishing tackle box to a point where only 3 lure types are carried on trips along the shallows of the Intracoastal Waterway, near Venice/Sarasota. Six lures in total. Three for clear water and 3 for dark water. A top water, a shallow runner (24" or less) and a s...

Now that was an enjoyable video.

As was the October Kingfish video which I also saw for the first time this morning, as well.

This lesser fisherman says thanks for producing it.

Good stuff.

I believe my leaning is towards a float.

My tendency is to release fish without taking them from the water.

De-barbed hooks and all that......

Hey guys, it will get me into heaven one day......won't it?
