Re: Mounting a Hawkeye FF3355P Fish Finder to a Kayak

Fishaddict wrote:You used the wrong glue. You need Marine 5000... Stuff is made for plastic kayaks.. Tackleshack has it in PP.
I searched the TackleShack site for 15 minutes trying to find this stuff. Would you be more specific, please. I also Googled "Marine 5000". Nothing.

Gluing Transducer Inside the Hull

I used Loctite Extra Time Epoxy to glue the trans to the hull behind the seat of my 12-ft. Design Concepts Kestrel. The package says, "Bonds most plastics". Okay, I roughed up the bottom of the boat with sand paper and wiped it thoroughly with lighter fluid and created a puddle of epoxy on...

Sch 80?

Why didn't you use sch 80? Just wondering, little more expensive, but should hold up better. John Sch 80 PVC? For the outrigger arm? Or for the float supports? Sch 80 PVC wouldn't be stiff enough for the outrigger arm. There's a big bending moment on the outrigger arm due to the 40# flotation on th...

Steel outrigger arm in salt water

Sully wrote:Great design. All that steel conduit will be a problem in the salt water though.
Yep, I'd rinse it off, but ultimately, I'd just replace it for—for less than $10.

Another Way to Connect Outrigger Arm to Floats

I revised the connection of the arm to the float assembly: http://jerrylester.com/outriggers/IMG_0391%20Merged.jpg Here is the assembly: http://jerrylester.com/outriggers/IMG_0396%20Merged.jpg I thought that a stub of pipe would make a better connection than the previous threaded elbow. I'm not sure...

Alternate Ways to Use Mounting

Here's the way, I normally use it: http://jerrylester.com/outriggers/IMG_0393%20Merged.jpg Note the paint roller handle extending from the 2" tee: http://jerrylester.com/outriggers/IMG_0398%20Merged.jpg If the turbulence noise is objectionable when paddling for sustained periods, the 2" pi...

Good idea, but 12" of 2" PVC dragging in the water fixed to the kayak seems like it would create a lot of drag and noise moving through the water. Have you water tested it yet ? Krash, it is noisy when paddling even 2 mph, and of course, it does create drag. But, the resistance is not rea...

Mounting a Hawkeye FF3355P Fish Finder to a Kayak

This is a handy little portable fish finder and depth gage. It is designed to be towed by the cable leading to the receiver with a float attached to the cable about 12" above the transducer. Where I fish, the cable and transducer could easily get tangled in grass, worse, lily pads. So, I decide...

Homemade Outriggers for a 12-foot Sit-in Kayak

I was inspired by the many designs of homemade outriggers that I saw on this forum, so I tried my hand. You can build these for about $25. http://jerrylester.com/outriggers/IMG_0362%20Merged.jpg These things are amazingly stable, as you might expect with an arm that is almost 9' long. And, they prov...

Great Pictures

Thanks, again, for the design information and pictures. You still like the design? And, you don't find the PVC pipe to be too flexible? I like the design because it looks like you can shape the pipe to move the floats aft where they won't interfere with the paddle stroke? BTW, I've done a lot of res...

Outriggers

jdoc, Those outriggers look really neat! What keeps them from rotating in the rod-holders? What are the floats made of? Sure would appreciate some more pictures. As you can see, I have two rod holders just waiting for similar outriggers: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c150/jandbrare/DSC00084Small...
