Re: Good low tide

I'm just now seeing this painting...it's almost like looking in a mirror! I even have a hat exactly like that one...where did this come from? Has someone been following me around with an easel?

Re: Good low tide

I ditched work on Wednesday and took my canoe out with my buddy Chris to the same spot where he had caught NINE Reds on fly the day before, and several on Monday as well. The only difference was the weather, but it was a huge difference, because we only saw a few tails and ended the day with just on...

I've had this vise for more than a decade (one of these days I might even clean it), and have lugged it with me on trips all over the Western hemisphere. You'd think I'd be better at tying flies after all that time, but nope.

X2

I've had far more success with this type of fly for sightcasting:

Re: What size line/ rod for tarpon?

Thanks Evan. Kevin & I (Ron) were going to reach out to you with this question too. Hope things are well with you. Hey Ron! Didn't realize that was you! Things are great down here...one of these days you and Kevin will have to come down here to SRQ and we can chase some Tarpon together. I've go...

Re: What size line/ rod for tarpon?

Here's an idea: just buy a flyrod and try it out. If you don't like it, or if it doesn't work, sell it or trade it and get a different one. It's not like you're limited to owning just one "perfect" tarpon rod. The only way to really know if something works is to try it.

Re: Moving to Tampa

It's tough when I'm in the native, I have to drop the paddle, grab the rod and pray that I can somehow control my momentum, keep an eye on the fish and pull off the cast. At the same time. LOL. Yep, that's a real challenge. I saw a rig recently that looked like it might be useful for this. It was a...

Re: Moving to Tampa

All this talk about tailers...fun to watch for sure, but I've never had much luck getting tailing fish to eat a fly. Anyone else have that experience? Seems they are so focused on whatever they're eating that they often don't even see the fly. I've had far more success with cruising or "resting...

Re: fly fishing the Pacific Coast Highway

Sounds like a fun trip! Have you ever chased Steelhead/Salmon on a flyrod before? It's a whole different mindset...takes some adjustment. It's also very seasonal...any idea what time of year you'll be up there? I've made a couple of trips up that way to fish for Steelies in the Summer and the Fall. ...

Re: Tomorrow I be gurgling

If your gurglers aren't gurgling, or if the front lip gets soggy and folds back, try adding a small folded piece of foam to the "joint" just behind the front lip (sorry I don't have my own pics handy, this Chernobyl Ant photo I stole from the web will have to do). http://www.danica.com/fly...

Yeah, well, the internets are full of haters, but anyone who actually catches Reds on fly and takes time to put up a nice report about it is no hack.

Haven't been on here in a while but just happened to be looking today and saw this AWESOME report and figured I'd chime in to say thanks for posting. Not only was the content great (u shure doo rite purty wordz) but you seem to have put a lot of time in with that buggy whip since last year.

Re: Plan ahead

Sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better, we encounter very similar issues with the Fly Club. Everyone wants opportunities to get together, but when you work to make them happen, it's always the same 20 people who show up. Not bad, but definitely frustrating, especially when the no-shows ...
