Hillsborough River

I've lived in Florida a majority of my life and I've never fished the Hillsborough River. I did recently, launching at Hillsborough River State Park. The river was up because of recent rain and flowing pretty good. Fishing in the river was very slow. But I found some water off the main river that wa...

Sunshine bass help

I'm looking for a place to go for sunshine bass. I know they're in Lake Manatee, but I haven't seen a school in years.

Are there any reliable lakes for sunshine bass?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Glad you had a good day and good eating. Can't beat fresh specks!

Specks at Manatee run large and are quite dark and beautiful. They put up a surprisingly good fight on light fly rod.

I've never actually targetted tilapia, but I've caught them on flies and lures. We caught five in Gilley Creek off Lake Manatee on small Rapalas. I caught one in Webb Lake on a Beetle Spin. I've caught several on popping bugs and Myakka Minnows in the Myakka River. You can go to the lakes at the old...

Hot Day on Sarasota Bay (with pics)

A couple from Colorado fished with me on Sunday. The plan was to concentrate on action (bluefish, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, etc.) because of the relatively low experience of one of the anglers. That said, we launched at Whitefiled Avenue along Sarasota Bay's east side. We caught just off the sand ...

Excellent catch. Specks are fun on the old fly rod.

What lake did you fish? What flies? How did you find the fish?

Lake Manatee 2-5 (with pics)

Headed out to Lake Manatee. Didn't know what to expect since I hadn't been out there since October. First fish of the day was one of the biggest bluegills I've ever caught out there. Caught in on a No. 10 popper. Caught a few more on poppers, then switched to a No. 12 nymph that works real well when...

I have a Hayden reel. How do you like yours? I love mine. Also, what TFO rod is that?

IMHO, TFO fly rods are the best things going. Great rods at a greater price!

Joe Bay launch

Does anyone know if they've added rip-rap to the beach where we launch at the south Skyway rest area. Someone told me they might have, but I haven't been up there for a while.
