Depends on the line and the rod. With full weight-forward floating lines and most intermediate/sinking lines, I don't think overlining is usually necessary. I do overline by one size on my floating Wulff Triangle Taper lines (paired with either TFO or Loomis rods). For me, overlining produces very d...

Very nice catch. I don't think I own any jerkbaits that aren't white. They work.

Nice reds...from what I've read, it sounds like the fishing is going off just about everywhere right now.

Thanks for the comments. The Glades are a special place. Jon...bring em on . You'll have to get down there with me one day. It'll make a fly fisherman out of ya ;). Terry...the fishing is definitely different now than it has been in the past. Places where we used to absolutely hammer the snook...

Good report Terry. 20lb flurocarbon is very strong. I doubt you could break it with any kind of normal pull on typical inshore spinning/casting gear. Something in the hookeye is almost assuredly cutting your leader. I've had the same thing happen with topwater plugs before- a small bir of metal in t...

That area obviously holds some great quality reds and snook. The first red is a picture perfect fish (shape, color, etc). Nice job!

Coppertone SPF50. As bottled sunscreens go, it's about the least greasy type I've used. I haven't had a sunburn in years.

Glades Fly Flingin'

Dad and I spent some time last week camping and fly-fishing down south in several remote areas of the Glades. By typical standards, the fishing was very tough. There hasn't been much rain down there, and waters that are normally almost fresh are currently very salty. The fishing we do down there thr...

Those are great quality fish! I sure wish we had more fish that size available along the northern Big Bend in shallow water. We're fortunate to have great numbers of fish, but I'd be lucky to catch two 30+" fish in a season, much less in one day.

Jon,
Check this out:

My suggestion would be to find someone with a broken push pole (like the listing above). You should be able to pick up a 10-14ft section of pole for reasonably cheap.

I used a leash for about 15 minute one time and hated it. An easy alternative is to just carry a spare paddle in the front hatch.
