Re: Furled leaders
You got it. As I saw it you could make them from very light mono or flouro material, some are using light nylon fly tying thread. Appears to be two main advantages, durability and a leader with no memory. Also supposed to pick up with less fuss from the water surface. Since you guys got me started u...

Furled leaders
I searched the site and only found one reference, anyone use them, or had experience with them? I've gotten intrigued by the idea and have been researching how to make them. It looks somewhat involved but not too difficult, even for my modest amount of brain cells. I might break down and buy one jus...

Re: Material Substitute
Polar bear is over-rated. Plenty of great substitutes around. My favorite is Poly yarn. Easy to work with, cheap, and floats forever. Avoid white, which will spook wary fish. Use light gray or blue instead. Speaking of Damsel flies, I have a great pattern for you to try next time you're fishing the...

Material Substitute
Looking for something to replace natural polar bear as a wing material for damselflies. I have white bucktail which seems like it would be to heavy and coarse, also have some EP material, Super Hair, and some white Polar Fiber (which seems pretty much like overpriced craft fur). Any suggestions for ...

Re: Need some fly fishing help
You may want to consider changing the fly line too, and save yourself some frustration. If it's one of those cheaper big-box store outfits the line, usually is not very good. The Cortland Fairplay series of lines are pretty good for about $20 and will cast much better that what most likely is on the...

Re: Need some fly fishing help
A lot of good ideas. Getting some live instruction is the best way. It's much easier for an experienced caster to see what you are doing and help correct any problems.
A good website wth a lot of information is flyanglersonline.com, they have a good section for beginners and a forum to ask questions.

Re: Okuma customer service
The only thing I dislike about my Okuma fly reels is that many times I manage to get the fly line under the star drag. I wish there was a little smaller opening between the drag and the frame. Other than that they are nice to fish with. According to their catalog thay have changed the star to a rou...

Re: Okuma customer service
Reference to the line under the star drag, If you are right handed and have the reel set up to reel from the left this won't be a problem I have always fished right handed, reeling with the left (a habit from my years in darkness using spinning gear). It probably has a lot to do with line control a...

Re: Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lake
The wetland restoration work done by Ducks Unlimited is a good example. They have been able to show an economic benifit to protection and restoration of wetlands which is in excess of developing the resource into something else, or simply allowing it to deteriorate. Some of their work is coordinated...
