Re: Chokoloskee fishing trip next weekend! May 2nd, 3rd, and

I have done just as well fishing Choko Bay as I have on 50 mile runs back in the Glades or down the coast. Most of the fishing guides run right past the bay to far away fishing spots because a client wont spend big money to fish 200 feet off the dock. You used to be able to put a kayak in and park f...

Re: Best time to fish

For as windy as it was it sounds like a pretty good day.
Friday is going to be tough to fish anywhere. Saturday wind from the West, maybe Joe Island.
Good luck.

Re: Rudder Question!!

Here is what a window sash weight looks like Hector. http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab212/skeetergr/weight_zps7975e1cd.jpg I've used these on Florida rivers in a Gheenoe and never really had a problem with them getting hung. I may have had to occasionally paddle back upstream and tug it a couple...

Re: Rudder Question!!

If you can find a old window sash weight at a salvage yard, you can drag it to slow your drift and keep the boat from turning.

Re: FIRST SOLO TRIP

Many moons ago we got up at 3AM to make the drive up to the Withlacoochee River to do some bass fishing out of a canoe. We pulled up to river edge and began to load our gear in the dark. After getting ready to push off, I looked around and asked my buddy, "where is the paddle?" His respons...

Re: Native Ultimate Paddlers - A Cautionary Tale

Paddling-The Tarpon 160 was my ideal kayak for speed- seat sucked. So what's out there gentlemen? I'm pretty happy with my Tarpon Ride. Always fished from the T120 before and the Ride is more stable, dryer, tracks better, much better seat, and seems to be a little quicker. Never fished out of the 1...

Re: We lost another great one on Monday

Wow what a shock. I always enjoyed fishing with Terry, and I always enjoyed her company. When I got tired she was still casting. Always smiling and just happy to be on the water regardless of the conditions. I got an email from her last week and again we talked about getting out when the water warme...

Re: Tarpon Fishermen

Tried it out this week end and it was ok for pinfish but Rik might be right about a sabiki rig.
I was hoping I didn't hook a lady fish, would have had to pull anchor.

Tarpon Fishermen

I just ordered a couple of these to keep in the skiff for sabiki rigs and catching pin fish. I thought they might also be handy for the tarpon fishermen that catch bait out of a kayak. Easy to store with it rigged and ready. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/berkley-lx-28-ice-combo-med.aspx?a=15...

Re: Mckay Bay?

I know years ago it was a well known tarpon spot when they moved into the bays. I have never kayak fished there though.
