lOW TIDE FISHING
I read the article by Heywood about tailing red fish. This inspired me to try low tide fishing. I went at dead low even to the point of paddling prop scars in order to get to the entrances to the flat. Once there I saw reds tailing, sharks cruising, and rays making exciting head wakes. The fish were...

went anyway
Weather forecast was poor, tide was not right 50 % moon. My son and I went anyway. We fished the mouth of the Anclote river on Labor day. While drifting with the outgoing tide there were many pods of bait in the water but no bites. The bait might have been ballyhoo but nothing was chasing them. Once...

handy measuring stick
I got a free Sea Tow adhesive ruler from West Marine. Once I cut off the advertising and borders I stuck it on my paddle. Even though it dips into the water there are no signs that it will peel off. This eliminates one more item to forget and you can't get up the creek without it.

Re: Safety Harbor
From the marina in Safety Harbor go on South Bayshore. There are small parks along the way one of them has a kayak canoe launch. It is basically a gap in the mangroves the bank is steep but if I can use it anyone can. There is plenty of paved parking and the sign actually says canoe/kayak launch.

Hull protection
After 3 years launching from beaches ramps etc. The bow and stern are showing wear caused by dragging to and from the truck. Is there a boot that fits over these areas or can I install a protective strip on these worn spots?

Re: tarpon spotted!
I cant afford to replace braid after being spooled. I use 10 lb test and there is only 150 yds on my spool.

Re: tarpon spotted!
You can launch anywhere along the causeway. I recommend the south side near the last bridge. There is a sandy beach there. The No Motor zone is marked by telephone poles along the edge of the flat. I paddle under the bridge to get to Honeymoon island. The tides are strong here and if the wind oppose...

tarpon spotted!
While fishing off Honeymoon Island north of Dunedin causeway I saw multiple Tarpon rolling along the drop off of the no motor zone. Most were @30 inch several were 4' or more. These estimates based on the 5 second glimpse as they rolled and the distance between the dorsal fin and tail. One rolled wi...

Re: All is not lost on the snook front.
I walked the Beach at Honeymoon Island just before high tide. There were 30+ snook in the wash channel 10' off the beach. The boaters are there in force most of the snook were within 1/2 mile of the north point,

Dunedin Causeway
I decided to paddle to Caladesi Island Park Monday between fronts since the water seemed clear and the wind was not too bad early. On the way I came across acres of bait in the water so I drifted awhile casting a Tsunami white bait simulation. I lost 6 lures to something that pulled drag and cut me ...

uni knot
Many illustrations show doubling the line when tying a uni knot to uni knot leader connection. Once the loop is cut one strand of the double line is not connected to anything. How is this a stronger connection when tying braid to mono?

Fish are asleep
Launched twice from Tarpon Springs last week and went on a hunt for Reds. Tide was great but there were no fish inshore. However in 6' there were plenty of trout on a green back mirrodine. I have been succesful here before under the same conditions. The only difference is a full moon at night this m...

Tarpon Springs
Drifted the flats around Tarpon Springs Wednesday AM. There is allot of white bait in the water. I used a light green back, silver side mirrodine and got hits on practically every cast. Trout, pinfish, and grouper with a few scattered lizard fish were the catch of the day. The trout were mostly shor...
