I will be off Tarpon Springs today. Since Howard Park is closed JET FLEA traffic is way down redfish activity is up. I caught my first slam 2 weeks ago. 1 20" trout 1 24" snook 6 24" reds.

Saturday I Cruised the edge of the no motor zone off Honeymoon Island and caught 2 Middle slot trout for the pan. The flats there are loaded with trout, reds and Tarpon next month, mullet are a good indicator of fish activity it is a good tactic to follow the schools. . Start with the lures mentioned the traditional color is red head white body. I also have great success with black top gold side topwater plugs.

I work at Venture Out-Fitters in Clearwater. We sell 2 diameters of shock cord by the foot. .16 cents for 1/8 inch I cant remember the price for the thicker cord (which is what you want) the color is white. 727-724-9389. We use the cord for tent pole repairs.

There is more grass on the water than on my front lawn! It is impossible to work a lure. Maybe the Anclote river is clear since the current would flush it out. :x

The plastic navy has exploded on the fishing scene. I would like to greet other Paddle Fishing members but you all look alike :shock: Maybe we can get a decal or flag to ID other members..I am really a sociable Kayaking fisherman that would enjoy a break on skunk days.

Howard park

This morning I hugged the shore out of the wind using a bone zara spook caught 2 18" speckled trout on the south side. I saw a small snook and a million pinfish on the edge of the flats where the sand meets the grass. When the wind started to kick up I switched to a red mission fishing jig 1/16...

Tarpon at Howard Park

I haven't caught many tarpon so I cant estimate the weight. However the length was @ 40". A 30" Tarpon I caught was @15 lb.

I was drifting live pinfish on the flats north of howard park when the drag started to scream. A tarpon jumped 3 times before taking my hook and pinfish to davy jones locker. In spite of the wind which was howling I also caught 2 grouper 1 goliath about 2 lbs and 1 gag about the same both too small ...

I fish from shore somtimes but since this is my kayak launch point it almost qualifys as a kayak story. I was using a top pup chartreuse hoping for a snook when a small red 15" took it on the third try. Once it was released I changed focus from snook to reds. Twitch Twitch Twitch the flats rose...

I just made one from plexiglass. Ace hardwear sells Plexiglass in 4" by 36" strips. I used a heat gun to soften then bend 3 " to a 90 degree angle. Then marked the appropriat numbers with a permanent marker. this measures everything up to cobia (33"). I used it monday and it work...

Did you follow the small creek north of Howard Park into the backcountry? It is lined with mangroves on the way in and widens out in a really really snooky lake.
