Re: I got a new hair cut!

On the flats in the Tampa area? If so, that's really awesome . They are incredibly good to eat, particularly fish that size.

Osprey(s) + Shad

Harsh light once again, but I liked a few of these. Really wish the backgrounds on the first two had been less busy, but I couldn't get a better vantage point. Looked like Mr. Osprey had a shad. 70-300 VR at 300mm and average 50% crops. Couldn't get closer. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/gato...

Re: Sandhill Cranes

Thanks fellas . The cold really wasn't too bad with the sun out. I was surprised. Paynes Prairie outside Gainesville is famous for sandhills, but it's a madhouse and you often need pretty big glass to get close-up shots of the birds. It was nice to come up on a pair of isolated birds. Fortunat...

Sandhill Cranes

I had my first opportunity to shoot sandhills yesterday. They are really pretty birds, particularly the piercing red eyes. This pair was bedding down in the marsh of Newnan's Lake. I would have never gotten remotely this close without the kayak. All of these were shot with the 70-300VR at 300mm. The...

UV filters are a scam by camera shops to sell you more junk IMO. I never use one, they serve no purpose in the digital world. So they protect your lens, but from what exactly? I believe it is another cheap piece of glass between your subject and your film/sensor and is not required. Now CPL and ND ...

Outside of the KOA (which is insanely expensive), I don't know of anything on or around Rookery. Seems it would be better to camp on one of the outer islands just north of the ENP boundary where you don't need permits. Easy paddle out of Port of the Islands or the Goodland causeway riding the tide.

I'm really worried about our snook population up here in the Big Bend. Prior to this winter, the numbers have been sky-rocketing. Here's hoping they find spring vents to take refuge until this cold weather crap goes away.

Bill, Stripers are probably my favorite inshore fish to eat. Surprisingly, their meat is very unlike redfish. The flesh is much more creamy. They are wonderful fried, grilled, etc. I absolutely love to catch them. They remind me very much of a snook that doesn't jump (stripers just fight harder IMO).

Stripers

These were caught somewhere in Georgia. Dad and I fished from 11:30-2 yesterday in the Gheenoe and caught 25 stripers and a couple trout. The stripers probably averaged 5lbs with a bunch between 6-8lbs. All were caught on Strike King Zulus on 3/8 or 1/2oz jigheads. Fish were suspended in 30-35ft of ...

That's darn good for ISO3200 on a crop sensor. There is noise, but it really doesn't detract from the image. Very nice!

I like the HDR as well...it doesn't look "overdone". How many exposures blended?
