Tarpon Rig question
Though a little late for the show, I just bought ky first tarpon rig (courtesy of Economy Tackle). After reading numorous threads on this forum I went with a Cabo 60 on a 8 foot Teramar xhvy with a fast tip. Filled with 50 lb pp and a 60 lb floro leader. I also picked up some 7/0 Xx Gamakatsu hooks....

Re: Redfish
I agree with the bone colored spook jr. I also agree on the gold spoon for everyone but me, I can't seem to catch a Red on a gold spoon for anything. I would add to the arsenal a mirrolure lil'John with an 1/8 red jig head. Good Luck

Re: Snook
Caught a few back in the Spring (last time I was down that way). That is great to hear though. I have two kayaks loaded on my trailer and I'm headed to Anna Maria from Atlanta this afternoon. I will be down for two weeks and hope I run into the "snookfest". If any one wants to fish in the ...

Re: Live Target Scaled Sardine
On the Live Target - change out the hooks!!! The hooks they come with are light weight junk. But they do work well once you do that It is amazing that these companies can't put good hooks on their lures. My favorite top water on the flats is a bone colored one knocker, but the hooks and rings they ...

Live Target Scaled Sardine
I'm preparing for one of my 3 or 4 trips a year to Anna Maria in three weeks. I have several friends that fish North Florida a good bit that swear by Live Target Scaled Sardine lures. Anyone ever give them a shot down that way? In the Spring, I found a bone colored spook jr. and lil John in golden b...

Great report JB. Not many fish make better table fare than flounder.

Re: Kayak Hauler
I know some models like the Hobie PA's are pretty heavy these days so I'm not sure if that's overkill or not.

Favorite Wading shoes
I love fishing in my kayak. I know that there has been a huge push the last few years for more and more kayaks that are easy to stand and fish in. I own one that is pretty good for just that, and occasionally I do. My preference though is to sit there gliding along fishing from my amply padded back ...

Re: How big is your reel
On the original question: I use 3000 series most often, 4000 quite a bit, occasionally 2500's. I have stradic FI's, FJ's, and one CI (in 4000 for the weight). The only one that I have ever had issues with is a 2500 FI that I bought used. I am kind of anal about caring for my reels, rods and all my f...

Tarpon rig suggestions
I am thinking of trying for tarpon this summer off the beach in the kayak. I've been reading a few old posts and am trying to decide on a rod/reel that will do the job with out braking the bank. I would love to stay under $300. After reading the importance of landing them as soon as possble I think ...

Very cool. That's like a new deer hunter shooting a ten pointer with a 22" spread on his first hunt. Congrats.

Re: Atlantic crossing in kayak
Dang, I complain about having to paddle a mile or two to get to good fishing spots. I can't imagine crossing the Atlantic. Fishing must really suck in Poland.

Re: Tampa Kayak Rentals
Wayne I know that a lot of guys on this forum are guides and or regularly use them. If you have the means I'd really suggest using one of them. They will provide and transport the kayaks. They also know where the fish are and what they are biting. I am originally from the bay area and still find it ...

Re: Dumb lil' John question
I appreciate all of the advice. Went with 1/8 red jig rigged on a golden bream lil john. Fish loved it. I had no trouble keeping it above the grass. I caught snook, flounder, jacks, trout and a red fish on this set up. I think this might be my new goto soft lure. I won't be able to make it down agai...

Perico on Saturday
Launched about 20 minutes before sunrise. Caught a large lady fish within 5 minutes. She exploded on a spook jr. I was convinced, for about a second, that it was a nice snook. Headed north past the powerlines and caught a nice slot red(24") on a lil' John in about a foot of water. A few minutes ...
