Palma Sola Friday

Launched at sunrise to a promising morning. Caught a small snook (around 18") with 15 minutes. Next a couple of small jacks. Before the wind started building up around 9:30 or so another short snook (21ish) and two small trout finished out the catch. One nice something did leave town with a per...

Re: Best time to fish

Thanks for the info guys. Went out this afternoon and found some really stiff wind out of the south. Managed one small suicidal snook, two medium sized jacks, and two mangroves. One of the mangroves actually broke my 20 lb leader. Oh, the mangroves were of the tree variety not the snapper variety.

Best time to fish

I plan to drive from Atlanta to AMI tomorrow evening, fish Thu,Fri, Sat and drive back Sunday. So why drive the 1200 or so miles for three days with lackluster tides and a pitiful Solar lunar outlook? Because that's the only time I have available and consequently the perfect time to fish. I'd love t...

Great post. I think most folks reading it have dreamed of doing the same kind of solo trip but never fallow up. Loved your pictures. Congrats on a great trip.

Re: Went out in search of reds today

Beautiful red Manning. Unfortunately I find that I have more days like RIK had than the one Manning had. I am planning to make the little drive 500 miles south from Atlanta to Anna Maria in a couple of weeks. I only get to make it down 3 or 4 times per year. I will mostly be fishing the Palma Sola, ...

Dumb lil' John question

This is probably a dumb question but here it goes. I have noticed on this forum and others that folks love mirrorlure's lil' John. How is the best way to rig this little hunk of plastic while fishing over grass. I'm thinking that it will snag a ton of grass with a jig head, but a weedles rig with a ...

Re: Rudder Question!!

I have a '12 Ride 135 and a '13 Tarpon 140 both with rudders. While the majority of my fishing is salt water I do trout fish the rivers in North Georgia a few times a year. It has been my experience that the rudders are totally useless while drifting in the rivers. The reason is the kayak and the wa...

Re: Monday Sarasota Bay

Thanks for yet another awesome report. After spending last week in the chaos that is created by a 2-3" of snow in Atlanta it is great to read a report like yours. That is a great pompano, and I'm sure it made a fine meal.

Re: Bet You Never Caught One of These

Very cool. I've only caught and released an overly exited pelican with less than spectacular eye sight that dove on my one knocker. Those birds better be careful, I just saw the link below this past week! http://www.nature.com/news/video-fish-leaps-to-catch-birds-on-the-wing-1.14496" onclick=&q...

Re: Sick Snook Photos

I know the issue if Snook limits/seasons has been a hot topic after the cold snap a couple of years ago. I for one hope that a very tight reign is kept on them. While they are delicious, the pleasure of seeing one explode on a lure is much more important to me. You gotta' wonder if some day, decades...

Mid March fishing

I usually get to make a couple of trips to the Bradenton area a year in the summer and fall. I am going to try to add a Spiring trip this year and was looking at late March though I could possibly make it early April. How is the fishing that time of year? Will the water temp be high enough for decen...

Re: Sabalo 2500 vs....

I am a huge fan of my Stradic 2500FI's. You can still find them new in a few places online. I have 2 fi's that I have been using for about 4 years. I have had to replace a couple of bearings along the way, but I think that is to be expected. In total, I have 6 including both 2500's and 3000's of th...

Re: "Damn, we haven't seen a redfish all day?"

I think the penalty needs to be enough that it wouldn't be worth the risk. The morons that do that sort of thing are not going to be swayed by ethics or a slap on the wrist.
