Re: Cockroach Bay

Absolutely. Very exciting. It's actually one if the few times I've ever caught tailing reds. The topwaters would spook the group at first, then they were practically fighting over it. Very cool to see.

Cockroach Bay

Finally after about a year hiatus from inshore kayak fishing, I finally got out on the water early thursday morning. It was a falling tide most if the morning. I started out working some of the mangroves with a weed less DOA fluke. Thought I may entice a snook, but nothing. I then went to my go to t...

Shimano Symetre Problem

I few years back I dunked my symetre 2500. Shortly after I dunked it, I took it in to Daves Fishermans World to get serviced--they ended up replacing some of the bearings. Ive had a problem with it since then. I With no pressure or load on the reel, it feels/reels as smooth as the day I got it. But ...

Re: Anchor Trolley Questions

I agree with the half and half trolley. Much cleaner set up without the trolley sliding up where you dont want it. Skip the cleet all together. I never have a problem with mine sliding once anchored. Those things tend to get in the way. I went with the drill less trolley. From front handle to middle...

Re: McGill Flats Blue Spinning Rod / Sabalos 3000

Do you guys find that 7'6" and 7'9" are too long for use in the kayak? I used to use all 7 1/2 ft rods until switching to 7ft or 6'6" . Seems like I had much more control fighting fish and casting around mangroves. I beleieve 7'6" is the shortest rod that they carry in the power ...

Anyone getting out Friday Morning?

I have not been out in too long--and really have been out of the loop. Was thinking west side of Tampa Bay or Ft Desoto. Let me know if anyone wants to join me.

Re: First Time to Double Branch

Great report--You dont see detailed reports like that anymore. I wish I had those conditions when I fished there last week. I had to battle an outgoing tide into a 15 mph N wind all the way back to State st.

Re: Wednesday Afternoon Red

Been there/Done that with dropping the grippers while attached to the fish. I lost a pair of Bogas to a large jack before. Not good for the fish or my wallet... I now have a pair of the plastic grips like you have. I was wondering how strong the lanyard is. I know its stretchy, but I wonder if its s...

Thanks Jim and dunfly--I plan to build a rod this summer when school and baseball wrap up. Jim--if your offer is still on the table in a couple of months...I may take you up on it--just to check things out.

Thanks again guys.

Thanks Jim. I just like the idea of building a rod myself--I think it would be satisfying to build a rod from scratch that performs well on the water. It sounds like an addiction---and it seems like you are addicted by the amount of passion in your posts. There should be places where people can rent...

Rod building questions?

I fish 100% inshore/flats. I like medium power/fast action spinning rods. I have always wanted to get into rod building and have some questions for the experts.... 1. How much does it cost to get into rod building? 2. What are the bare minimum equipment items that I would need...aside from the Mudho...

Icefishing in the Goon

I great friend and I ventured from the Tampa are over to the Great Spacecoast to see if we can start the New Year with a bang. Neither of us have fished recently due to wives, kids, and jobs. We were greeted in Titusville with the biggest cold front of the winter--which brought frigid temps and gust...
