Shimano Chronarch/Chronarch SF/Calais ASV on either Berkley Series One or Bionix rods. Throw in a Calcutta 400 for throwing really big lures. All my inshore rods are 6' and my tarpon rods are either 6'6" or 7'. No egg beaters allowed on my yak .

I started a log five years ago...it has turned into an invaluable resource. Last time I checked, I had detailed descriptions of ~750 separate trips in both salt and fresh water. I keep track of what was caught, the tides, lures used, locations fished, and any other pertinent information that could b...

Any tone that blends in with the surroundings is a plus (olive, sand, etc.). The less visible you are the better...if you don't stand out like a sore thumb, other kayakers and boaters won't know you're there. That means less spot-hawking, which is obviously a good thing.

captjake, I don't know exactly when the first Chronarch was introduced, but I'm guessing 15 years ago. The current model has been produced for about 10 years I believe. I started off with Calcutta's in the high-end market with a 250, 150, and a 50. They are great reels, but not up to par with a Chro...

I doubt a Stella would suffer any ill-effects from being used on a kayak. They are just about bulletproof. I've used comparable high-end baitcaster's (Shimano Chronarch, Calais, etc.) for several years on a yak without any problems at all. Then again, I don't use flush-mount rod-holders either, so m...

I know it's the most popular thing going now, but I'm not a real big fan of the Tarpon 140. It is a well thought-out kayak from a layout standpoint, but it definitely has some drawbacks. First of all, the bow plows through the water which makes it a very LOUD yak to paddle compared to an OK Prowler ...

This is an interesting thread...confirms what I've heard about Stradics the past year or so. I am confused though as to why almost everyone that has posted here is using spinning tackle? Conventional reels offer MUCH better line control, better drag systems (in general), improved accuracy/subtle lan...

No spinning reels here...Shimano Chronarch or Chronarch SF all the way. With the right line setup, they'll handle anything you'll find inshore, even 100+lb tarpon. I spool them with everything from 10lb mono to 30lb braid depending on the usage.
