Re: Simple Request / Salty Fly Report
Bill, I'm sure some folks will disagree with this, but in my opinion, you really don't need a bunch of fancy flies with intricate details to catch reds, trout, snook, and small tarpon. It's more about fishing the right style of fly for the conditions. When I'm blindcasting in shallow water or along ...

Re: Up the Creek with the Leg-end!
That's one healthy redfish . That creek almost looks like the territory up in my neck of the woods.

Re: Old Florida 8 SA
I fish all Old Florida and Nautlilus reels (including several of the SA series). They have always served me very well.

Very nice snook! I know that bar, but have never pulled a snook off of it.

Re: Fish Grip
To me, the best attribute of the Boga is that it rotates. The idea of putting a gripper that doesn't rotate on a green oversize redfish with a mouth full of trebles doesn't sound like much fun. I'll gladly pay the extra $$$.

Re: Sarasota mullet surprise
The second shot is fantastic, particularly with the eye out of the water. Good work with the camera!

Re: tarpon and riggin'
For throwing plugs and big soft plastics, a St. Croix TIC70MHF or TIC70HF paired with a Shimano Calais ASV or Chronarch BSV.

Re: tarpon and riggin'
You can whip tarpon very, very quickly in a kayak with the right technique. The 50lb braid doesn't do you a whole lot of good over the 30lb since you can't put anywhere near that much pressure on the fish anyway from a kayak. Like Dave said, don't let the fish rest and change your rod angle to count...

Eagles in Flight
Found a group of eagles on Newnan's Lake. Good subjects! These were shot with the 70-300 VR out of the kayak. 1. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/gators15/DSC_8192_copu.jpg 2. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/gators15/DSC_8204_copy.jpg 3. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/gators15/DSC_...

Re: Canon Rebel XS question
There is nothing wrong with the camera or necessarily your technique. The problem is strictly the lack of lighting. In order to stop motion in fast moving sports, you need to be shooting at least 8-10 times as fast a shutter speed as you are shooting (1/400 s or faster). Otherwise, the pictures will...

Paynes Prairie
Haven't spent much time behind the camera of late, but I took my son Brady out for a walk yesterday and managed to shoot a few decent images. The lighting was kind of harsh in some of these. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/gators15/DSC_8008_copy.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/gators...

Re: Leader question
I usually tie either a three or four section leader. First, I have a whipped loop in the end of the fly-line. I then loop on a 3.5' piece of 30lb Mason Hard mono. To that, I connect a 1.5' piece of 20lb Mason Hard mono with a double surgeon's. I tie a perfection loop in the end of the 20lb Mason. Th...

Re: Best tasting fish
I'll take small (less than 10lbs) stripers over anything inshore. For offshore, cobia is hard to beat. I'm also a huge fan of fried bluegills and other panfish (filleted).
