Then there the Penn Battle 2000 that's about 6 months old and corroding. To be sent as well...

Perhaps we can compare notes and see how each co. does?

I had the same thing happen to a pair of Costas a few months ago. I went to put them on and ended up with a piece in each hand. After their review, I paid a $50 frame fee, and they sent me a new pair. The pair that I sent in was discontinued, so I was allowed to choose any frame that I liked. Seemed fair and reasonable to me.

I live in Volusia County; the home of the Costa del Mar company. I always try to support local businesses, so I gave them a second chance. Now I'll never buy another pair from them.

I had a lens drop out of my 6 month old glasses, and drop onto concrete. Somehow, it didn't break, but it did get scratched. I sent the glasses back, and it cost me about $60 to get them repaired. On top of that, they came back with the scratched lens.

The worst thing is that this was the second time. I've had a lens fall out of another nearly new pair, and now that's twice I had to fork out substantial money for an "under warranty" repair. The current pair is about five or six years old, and I'll probably replace them this year.

I'm done with Costa.

Got an email from Costa today...

Warranty repairs - frame damaged - cost $11.95
Required repairs, not under warranty - lens damaged - $99.00

When I sent the glasses back, neither one of the lenses were damaged.
I'm really eager to see what the damage is they're talking about come Monday when I call them.

My Costas fell from my neck a couple of months ago and broke in half when they hit the ground. I went through the return process and they sent me a brand new pair for $11.95 warranty cost. The frame was obviously broken, but the repair bill also noted that the lenses were faded and therefore replaced.

Mine were the Harpoon frame with Amber 580 glass lenses.

I was highly impressed.

I have used Costa customer service twice. Each time my glasses were damaged was my fault. Both times I was highly impressed with their service. Thus the reason I continue to buy their product.

UPDATE...

Just got off the phone with a representative from Costa and before I even had a chance to ask any questions they said that they had made an error and that I would not be charged $99.00 for "damaged lens". They told me that the new replacement frames have been changed slightly and that my old lenses would not fit the new frames properly. Therefore requiring the lenses to be replaced also. They said, they'll be sending me a brand new pair for the warranty processing fee of $11.95 + tax in 7 to 10 days. That's great news!

New rod came in today - no questions asked. $30 to cover shipping, handling and probably pay for part or all of the rod. Call it two weeks from my shipping out the broken one to getting the new one. Not too bad.

Let's see how Penn does...

The Penn manager who posts on SOL bends over backwards for folks. He takes so much crap from posters it makes me want to buy a Penn out of pity. If you don't find happiness with Penn you ought to try contacting him on the Penn sub forum there, I bet he'd help you, their asian made products are basically flat replaced, not even repaired.

I am glad you mentioned that the new Harpoon frames have been changed slightly. When I got my replacement pair back I swore they fit a little differently. It isn't significant, but I did notice it. After wearing them for a couple of days they feel normal.

The "narrowed" the frame, which I think is a big downside because many buy that model because of the wide frame.
