new kayak reccommend.

Post by nemo327 »

My 12' Heritage is starting to get old after 4 years. I do not have the Heritage problem with scupper holes although I lived in fear after reading about this. What is your recommendation for a good fishing Kayak to replace it?. I fish inshore on the flats and next to the mangroves. It is a 2 mile paddle sometimes accross St Joseph sound to the islands I want tracking and stability and speed.

OK Trident or Ultra, Native Ultimate... lots of good choices, lots of personal opinions I kinda like these

Wilderness Systems Ride 115 or 135. Stable, tracks well, lots of space. Only limitation is the weight of of the WS 135.

If I were to buy a kayak it would be a Ultimate 14.5 still the best design in my opinion when all is considered

I am a Hobie Mirage Drive fan from way back. You can troll, don't need to anchor very often, and can eat a sandwich/drink a beer while fishing and still pedaling. It is also very sail compatible.

I'm a fan of Malibu's Stealth. Very stable and tracks pretty well.

Like other have said, you'll have a plethora of opinions. Go test some out at Bill Jackson's and then decide.

I felt that when standing up the Native was a bit more tippy than the Wilderness Commander. The Native's seat is very comfortable.

In the 12' Commander I use the seat, Capt seat, as well as stand up.

I suspect it's a bit slower than the Native, but speed wasn't as much an issue for me. Rudder would be nice, but not required.

If I were going Tarpon or deeper water fishing I would stick with a sit on top.
