"Damn, we haven't seen a redfish all day?"

I wonder why? Found this in Palma Sola Bay on Saturday.

This picture is after I tried to pick it up and make it the footprint smaller, it was so entangled in oysters it was impossible to move.

Oysters and dead mullet, redfish and sheepshead. Guess that is one of the perils of nighttime illegal gill netting...you can't see the oysters.

Todd found this 5 minutes after we'd had a conversation about the lack of redfish and wondering if the place had been netted out over night.
Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley

This season has been very slow for me there. I keep waiting for things to improve with the cooling weather but so far it has not.

Mark, I own several cast nets. That was not a cast net. Not even close, there were no weights on it. It was probably 20X20 in size.

Were you able to get it removed? if not report it to the FWC, they need to know about things like that, not that they will do anything about it other than log it.

Who knows. I saw it when I saw one float. There were only two attached that I saw.

I thought I could remove it but it became so entangled in oysters it was way too heavy. I kept pulling and piling it on top of itself to try and make the footprint smaller.

Shitpots salvaged what they could, cut and ran. No weights, two floats, twenty foot of net......

I actually saw a poacher truck and trailer backed down at the Perico bridge put-in. The trailer was probably long enough for a 25 foot boat. Called The FWC about it but a truck and trailer at a clandestine ramp is no crime.

The net kinda looks like a cast net because of the bunched up part looks like a horn in the photo.

Sadly the poachers have to be literally caught in the act, even if you see them and report the vehicle tag number. I have been told they cannot pull them over and search them for that. The only thing is that if they receive calls on a particular area they will sometimes step up enforcement in the area. I have had success by doing that, on the second call they were there in an instant and some citations were issued, unfortunately the guy that got caught wasn’t the real bad guy, those guys always seem to slip away.
