I have kayak fished for about 6 years now. As of yet have not had a mishap where I have needed my PFD. I have been lucky. I am now 68 (shit that sounds old when you say it like that) and fish by myself most of the time. About 2 years s ago I decided to improve my water safety while fishing. Traded my sit in Native Ultimate for a sit on Slayer. I also bought an inflatable PFD and decided to wear it 100% of the time I am in the kayak. Was not sure I could really do that because up to now I had never worn one. Within a fishing trip of two I got so used to having it on that I don't even know I am wearing it now. If an old dog like me can learn new tricks so can you.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

Better yet, don't go out on a day that keep boats from going out.

Use your best judgment. There will always be another day to go fishing.
