I use a downrigger ball w/ a fin. Fits perfectly in the cupholder of a Tarpon.

i just picked up one of those 3 pound folding grapling hook type, gonna test it out tomorrow :D

Window sash weights work ok. (And their cheap!)

Here's my anchor rig, I got about $15 in the whole thing.

100' 3/16 rope, slightly modified extension cord wrapper-upper, 3 lb. grappnel anchor & a float.

For deeper water than you can use a stake out pole or rough water, the claw or Bruce type anchor is one of the best. Very popular on the Gulf Coast. and inexpensive in the 2.2 lb size:
