At Home Depot they sell PVC trim pieces. They sell a facia board that is 8' lengths, 6" wide and is 1/4" thick. Cost is about $10. Very lightweight and will not rot. As an added bonus it will float!
You can make that same board with 3-4 cuts. About $2 in small SS screws and some 5200 and it was done.

Just one thing though. My name's not Jeff. It's Clay.
Why did your voice message say Jeff?
Sorry, Clay. Must be that short term memory problem, again. (I gotta get that Rx refilled.......)
Hey, no worries. Voicemail said Shep. Figured that name would ring a bell first.
Rik, you're right, it's not at the 0 mark. I just measured it and it's nearly an 1/8" off. I guess it wouldn't hurt to give everybody that little extra.
I mean hey, I have to actually catch a fish to be able to measure it, right?
I have put the adhesive measuring tape on my paddle handle it s 36" long, just put the paddle in the water next to the boat and pull the fish along side, that way can keep fish in the water, and better insure survival if realease. Also have the Berkley lip gripper with the built in tape measure.
I don't like the rain gutters. As a judge of these, many times, the rain gutter pinches the tails a lot which leads to an inaccurate measurement.
If your going to make a board make sure you read Todd tip. The gutters do pinch the tail. The board that Todd posted is really nice its light weight and it floats.
