Post by noles »

Yes, its finally done. I apologize for the delay, got side tracked with moving into a new place last week. Took me a while to tracked down all my rod building supplies. Anyway, here's pictures of the rod:

BTW, the thing casts beautifully! Just ask Chief1600; he wanted to test a rod before committing to a new 8 wt.

Did you turn the handle? I like the shape. At 7'3" did you build it on a spinning rod blank. I have a 7'6" 8wt that was built on a St. Croix SCII spinning rod blank. Casts nice, but a little short on the distance.

No, my lathe is out of commission (damage during moving) so the grip is full well from my vendor (Mudhole).

Is the shape fatter at the front, or is that just an optical illusion. From the picture is looks like a modified Ritz type grip.

That thing does cast sweet. It was amazing to be able to lay out 40' of line without even trying. Light too!

Dunfly, it is a littl larger towards the top of the grip.

Blindmullet, yes it is the AMT matrix blank. It's a five piece that I dropped the bottom section to get the 7'3".

I can't find 5pc blanks in any of the matrix catalogues!
What's up with that?

Why 7'3"?

I had a 7'6" 5 wt that I loved. One of the many fly rods I broke. It was great for little canals and places like that. Me thinks someone is going to be exploring.
