Large White Cichlids

Post by bluebill »

I went to the same canal in Cape Coral where I caught the blue oscar on previous post and saw large, say 3 o 4 pound whitish fish that have the general shape of a larger cichlid, like a peacock bass.

These large white fish were fast swimmers and were moving in and out of clear moving water where smaller fish were gathered.

I could not get them to strike any lure so no pictures for ID yet.

They are in a freshwater canal but near enough to open culverts that connect to the saltwater north of Matlacha.

Has anyone noticed a similar fish?

They definitely were not jacks.

the tilapia I have seen in the ponds around Brandon came to the surface alot and these fish stay submerged.

I am going to bring a fellow with me that likes to castnet to see if we can catch and photograph one.

FWC exotic descriptions say the Midas Cichlid has some white individuals but they also say they are limited to the Miami area
