I need Outrigger measurments

Post by AirForceResDano »

I am going to build some outriggers for the pile so I can stand and sight fish better. I have a 13 prowler.

I have the materials, i just need to know:
1) What length should each be?
2) How far behind the seat should I mount them?

I have the set from Spring Creek

1) The receiver I have is 30". The arms can extend out to 24". On relatively calm days I can drop the floats down right next to the boat (see Todd and Heywood's posts). On rougher days I extended them all the way out. If you are going to make one that is a fixed length, I would suggest something in between.

2) I mounted them about 8" behind the seat. They are out of the way of my paddling stroke.

Hope that helps.

Cool thanks for the measurments. I have somewhere to start. So at 24", I can stand, sit and cast without being wobbley? Thats my problem now, I stand without riggers and I feel like I am going over.

I dont like the prices of the pre-made ones. I can get the parts from my work for $50. Stainless parts for $65. I get a really good discount.

When I have them fully extended it's really stable. I can throw a 10' cast net no problem.

I also didn't like the price of the pre-made ones. I got mine used for about the same price you'll end up paying.
