It is an old wive's tale based on the fact that bananas float and when you found them floating on the water, it indicated a ship wreck of one of the many banana boats bringing bananas to the US from South and Central America.

Banana's are hard to cast and they twist your line when you troll with them.
I like to rig the little green ones with a 4.0 worm hook, and jig them on the bottom for grouper. You can peel back the tail for more action and additional scent in the water.

Well, I don't know about that, but the Bannan family were known scabies carriers and would quickly infect all the sailors on a vessel. The old time sailors soon figured out that their crotch only itched after a cruise if a Bannan was on board. Hence: Bannon=itchy crotch=sucks to be you=bad luck.

Not really superstitious, but Sunday I was fishing and not catching. About noon my friend says, "I'm so hungry, I could eat this mirrodine."
I said "You didn't bring anything to eat?" He says "yeah, I brought a couple of nanners, but somehow they got soggy." I caught a snooklet and he got skunked. Just sayin'

I went on a charter boat in Hawaii and the deck hand checked our coolers prior to leaving and took out any bananas. Caught three fish in 8 hours!

Your friend must be a real dumbazz!
I'll bet that in his effort to eat better,he packed what he thought was a healthy snack and forgot all about the bananna thing.
Still pretty friggin' stupid! :D

The superstition about bananas has been around along time, and I was well aware of it. Bananas are a great source of potassium and makes a for a great energy food. I use to eat them when I raced bicycles. Sam can atest for me, I had one along on this particular day. So much for superstitions
