Well done, oh how I wish we had a population of those up here.
Maybe we ask for some stocking to be done by the FWC

Yea! Wouldn't that be terrible. What am I going to go fish for today? Reds, tarpon, snook, and bonefish and Without having to drive 3-5 hours south.

No, if we had Bones up here the other 3 wouldn't get a look in for me! It would be Bones all the way.

Here's a little more of the story.

I caught it with a mirrolure white lil' John.
When I got it up on the beach and realized what I had for sure it spit the hook and started flopping for the water.

I threw my rod and pounced on it like it was a fumbled football.

There would be no way anyone would of believed it without a picture.

Congrats! Certainly not common, but not unheard of. I know of at least 12 documented catches of bonefish over the years, including a 26-incher (saw the photo) taken in Manasota Key surf in August of 2008. Capt. Jonnie Walker caught two in one day in Big Pass a few years back.
As far as permit go, we have a good population of world-class permit -- if you know where to look. Tom Shubatt of Anna Maria landed a 35-pounder on fly in shallow water. He submitted it it to IGFA for a world record, but it was not allowed because his tippet overtested. I fish with Shubatt and got at least 30 shots at big permit. I didn't hook up, but I had plenty of opportunities!
