A rarity for me. And a crappy picture

I think I have only caught 3 of these north of the Everglades. Wish we had more here.

In North Biscayne Bay I have been fishing with a guy named Alex. I catch so many after awhile it gets old but Alex loves to eat them so he doesnt mind too much.

I had one specific day in Lemon bay where in a matter of about 15 casts I caught 6 of them. All in one sandy hole tucked between some mangroves and a grass flat. Those 6 were the only ones I have ever caught... Was definitely a weird day for sure

Okay help me out there. What is it?
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

I had no idea you all didnt get cuda up there....really thought that was a statewide fish that was very common.

Plenty of Cuda up here. Not so much on the flats but I've caught them on the beach, sea walls, and docks.

They are great in stews. Nevermind the ciguatera.

Damn Yankees.

Are you sure that is a cuda? There is a species of fish very similar to a barracuda but I cannot remember the name right now.

Thought it was a cuda, but I had only seen them a few times before and not this size. When snorkeling in the keys I have seen some big ones. Also had a big one shorten up a very nice spanish mackerel I was reeling in one time.

That is it, thanks Chris. CRS was kicking in.

I think many who catch what they think are cudas around here are actually catching a Southern Sennet. That would be the more prevalent species for our area. We have large cudas on offshore reefs but inshore very few, if any.

Either way they are almost next to impossible to tell apart as juveniles and they are as rare a catch as a cuda for our inshore waters. I have caught two before, both in the Palma Sola area.

TRKPoker sorry I didn't go out with you guys a while back. I saw the pics and the weather looked pretty bad. I plan to get out next weekend depending on the storms. Pelican harbor looks really nice.
