Tough Muddin with the Legend

Post by Heywood »

Hit the water early this morning before the wind got up with none other than the Leg end. We had good conditions early, but few shots at "Mudders". Dave started it out with a quick shot at one, but these fish are extremely spooky.

Later on he connected with a little snooklet.

Next it was my turn. I caught site of a "Mudder" from about a 100 yds away. Just a quick reflection of sunlight and movement along the grass. I got into position, made a cast and let the new Slayer Inc SSB (Sinister Stick Bait) sit right out in front of this traveling redfish. A couple of small twicthes and this redfish was on it like a dog on a bone.

Image

Been a long time since I had a good case of the shakes, and that red surely gave em to me.

Let me tell you, Dave will go to any lengths to retrieve his $17 dollar lure.

A little later I got a fantastic blow up from this smallish snook. He didnt know he was little and really put up a strong fight.

All the while we had a couple of guardians watching over us. Kinda of appropriate given the day.

Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

Koppers Live Target. Todays new 'Sebile'. Funny.... Pure Fishing bought out Sebile and all the local shops started bad mouthing them and pushing the Koppers. Trying to get lures from Pure Fishing must be as big a pain in the %#$ as getting parts from Shimano.

You are correct. Sebiles are IMO, total crap. I've seen nine of them get torn apart by slot redfish. The rear hooks were just held into the body by a clip.
(Not me, I would never buy one of their lures, it was a friend of mine that lives in Englewood)

I think the Live Targets are constructed the same way. I can't think of any current made lures that are through wire constructed except some boutique striper plugs and Sebiles off shore big game series. I use Koppers bluegill rattle baits and they do seem to be very good quality.

Some of the Rapala lures are Stainless Steel through wire constructed.
