Kayak Fishing is Like Sex

Post by Manning »

Kind of a late report, but here is the story. Friday morning launched from Vamo in South Sarasota about 7:00 am. Caught the following in this order.
Jack - small, Blue - 20 inches, Snook - 18 inches, Flounder -10 inches, Lady Fish - 16 inches, Trout - 18 inches and a Jack -18 inches. Never caught a Blue or Flounder there before.

I know that everyone here is into pictures, but I don't carry any electronics when I fish as I have a tendency to fall in occasionally. Kayak fishing is like sex, if you don't fall off occasionally, you aren't trying anything new.

What bait(s) were you using?

And what a baiter you are. I think you're well past completing your apprenticeship and ready to move up.

I caught the first Jack and the Blue on a surface popper. Not sure of the brand as it doesn't say anything on the lure. Everything else was caught on a DOA shad tail with a black CAL jig head. The shad tail was a Mellon Back, but I have also had great success with the Arkansas Glow shad tail. Actually I just use the DOA shad tail about 90% of the time. Does anyone else have any other favorite colors?

Kayak fishing is like sex because I still prefer catch and release to keeping what I catch.

So much could be said comparing the two, but in simple terms,

I'd like to do both more often, have to be real nice to my wife to get the nod for either, and it wouldn't hurt to be better at both!!!

I was thinking the same thing Paul.

But with the way this guy is describing it, he uses soft plastics either way  uh, well you should be using soft plastics. This is how they are dissimilar. "I want to catch something" vs "I sure don't want to catch something."

I have been hooked on Greenback (color # 419 I think) for about a year now. I have a hard time finding it sometimes though.

I think most people do. Seasonally I have some variations to the color schemes I use. The past two days have been interesting. Earlier in the day they liked one color, late morning another and then midday yet another. A week ago using the same style tail they ate it no matter what color it was (except for one day where they wouldn't eat anything)

I do like something with gold in it for redfish whether it's an all over gold look or just gold flakes or glitter. But they are eating some "natural shrimp" colors right now too along with some rootbeer colored lures. But I always seem to "go to" the gold if they don't take another color.

1.You spend of lot of time, money, and energy for something that brings you a few brief moments of pleasure!

2. You keep wanting to get a group together, but it never seems to happen and you usually find yourself all alone :D

3. Watch out for crabs!

4. You know you should wear protection, but you reallly don't want to!

I could keep going, but I don't know where the line is on this board and hope I didn't cross it already ;)

Well if you put it into fly fishing terms....

strip strip slow back cast fast forward slow back faster forward slow back cast fast forward slow back faster forward slow back cast fast forward slow back faster forward STRIKE pull back and then the fight is on because like a fish I do not want to snuggle.
