The past couple of weeks...lots of pics

Post by Redfishn'Ale »

I’m officially “back” now, I’ve been horsing around a bit lately and haven’t found the time to post but now I’m back in to the swing of thing I promise, fish porn shall abound from now on.

I’ve gotten out a few times in the last few weeks, Flamingo, The Loxahatchee, lots of offshore fishing in Dania and a trip up to Round Island where I managed a slam, although the Redfish was only about 12’’. The first fish that particular morning was a really nice snook in the upper 30’’s but she dragged into the mangroves and although I put up a valiant fight trying to get her out, and managed to do so once, she went deeper in the second time a broke me off. The next cast at the same spot (after I re-tied my leader) yielded a nice 24’’ snook, no monster but acceptable.

Down in Flamingo the bugs have been vicious and the bite doesn’t last very far into the morning, thunderstorms seem to help as they keep the water cool but man is it scary when you get skittered by one. Me and Bob (Quirkster) were paddling back from Snake Bight when lighting struck not too far off…rattled my bones.

Offshore has been solid, September is a great month for mutton snapper near shore and they have been pretty ravenous. I tried drifting a gulp shrimp on a jighead when I was out and was surprised to find out how well it works. You catch a ton of grunts and blue runners in between the mangroves and muttons but its still something tugging on the end of your line.

So I’m back and have my work situation figured out for the coming months, once again I apologize for flaking out the last couple of months but I’ve been too busy L-I-V-I-N beyond my capacity...it takes its toll. The oats have been sowed so I’ll be fishing often and you’ll be hearing about it...heres some pics from the last few weeks, thanks to Bob and Tom for some of the pics.

The next two require an explanation: Being towed behind a sailboat in a daisy-chain fashion it was pretty difficult to get a beer back to the last kayak in line...so I trolled beer, worked out perfectly.
