Insect Reppelent and Plastic parts

If you use one that is listed, please add a review. If a kayak or canoe that you would like to give a review of is not listed, please add it. This is also where you can show off your boat.

Insect Reppelent and Plastic parts

Post by Keith B »

I am trying to find the best bug juice to use in the glades, but what I am reading is that DEET is terrible on plastic parts. Have any of you guys had issues with deet and your kayak, or even on your fly line or other plastics?
Thanks

I have had deet eat up a fly line. Thermacell is the way to go for bugs IMO.

Thanks for the help. I cannot afford to lose a $100 fly line, that is why I am asking.

Anything but deet. I destroyed the screen on a brand new phone after spraying Bullfrog Mosquito Coast on my ears and answering the phone.

Don't forget that sunscreen also destroys flyline, although not as quickly as DEET.

No. They can handle splashes, but don't let them soak.

So, should I place the thrermacell in the front of the boat so the cloud of repellent washes over me as I paddle, or should I place it behind me on the seat?

I always keep mine in between my legs on the floor of the boat when in use.

Found a thermacell combo with a holster for 22.99 here and bought it. Looked like a pretty good deal and I'm a sucker to deals
