Mission was to find big reds.
We failed. We've been catching good numbers of rat reds, but encountering few big fish. I've been poling the flats and not seeing very many at all.
We didn't find the big reds. Instead, we found the big snook. Strange. Also caught some nice trout. All fish were taken on D.O.A. CAL Jigs with gold paddle tails -- very versatile (and tough) lures. My biggest snook came took a jig on 5-pound PowerPro around mangroves. Don't know how I landed that fish.
Luck?

Great pics and report. I talked to a guy at a launch in the SQR are earlier this week who showed me pics of two over slot reds he had caught that morning. They are out there...just got to find them.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

Nice catch Gibby.
I always catch more & larger fish when I fish by myself. Stealth is the key.
