Summer Swelter Paddle In - June 18 - UPDATE

Post by Rik »

Want to hold one in June. A good, old fashioned Paddle In.

Date: June 18

Location: Ft. Desoto. At the beach just inside/to the south of the toll booth.

Time: For the Pairpalooza, 6:30. We'll draw names no later than 6:45. This is the only set time. Food around 11. Everyone else, when you get there. It'll be all over when the last one leaves.

In the morning at 6:30 a.m., we'll have a blind draw to make 2 man teams of those who show up for the super non-competitive fishing thing. Of those who show up, we'll put names in a hat and make teams. Unless the team is lopsided then we'll throw one name back in the hat and draw another. The team that catches the most inches of fish - in total including everything that swims out there and you can use anything that isn't or wasn't alive (or a cast net) to catch them - will enjoy the adoration and envy of the crowd. You will be King or Queen (your choice) for the day. You might even have to wear a crown.

Few things we also might do if folks are interested. Casting contest, no explanation needed except that I am the reigning Paddle-Fishing.com Casting Champion (gotta get that in a few more times before I get dethroned). Kayak standing contest where each contestant stands in their kayak and holds one end of a pole. If you let go or fall in, you lose. Kayak jousting if someone can figure out how to set it up without it resulting in bloodshed. Hot air balloon rides (anyone have a hot air balloon?).

We are looking at doing a cook out to begin around 11. Need a couple guys to bring some big grills. We can set it up at $5 each for as much as you can eat ('we' supply the typical hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad beach food) or a bring your own and throw it on the grill. Decide amongst yourselves on that one - the only thing with food I'm good at is eating it - but lets come to some conclusion before June 1.

Just a simple, fun get together. Who is in?

Once the date is chosen I'll put in for time off. The sooner the better for me to be there.

Dear Mr. Rik,

What would a lopsided team look like in such a super non-competitive fishing thing? Are we talking stature, recent fishing prowess, historical awesomeness, or some other qualifier?

Thank you for any clarification.

Mr. Vercetti,

Does your attendance at the Summer Swelter depend on the answer to that question?

Cooknfish and I on the same team would be lopsided.

Norm and I on the same team would not be lopsided.

Does that help?
