Sabile Knot -Braid to Leader - Anyone Using It?

I just watched this video on tying the Sabile knot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N0mCf0AIAA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It look like a great slim profile knot. Was wondering if anyone is using it. I have tried to tie it a couple times and and still need some more practice. I have been using a double uni but this one is definitely thinner.

The Slim Beauty is easier and just as thin

OK...since I am retired and have nothing better to do I just tied the slim beauty so I could compare it to the the Sabile I did earlier today. Sabile wins the slim contest by just a little bit. The real reason that the Sabile wins is that you never tie a knot in the leader material. Since I was practicing for my tarpon rig I was using 50# PowerPro and 80# fluorocarbon. The first step in the slim beauty is tying that double knot in the leader material. That knot is fatter than anything in the Sabile. The slim beauty wins the ease of tying contest thought.

Very interesting knot. Will have to try it. I use a bimini twist to an albright for my tarpon rigs.

I have now watched videos for the bimini twist and albright knots. Look rock solid. I generally use a double uni for most of my rigs and have never had it fail. Problem is this gets bulky when using something larger than 30# leader. If you have not tried the Sabile give it a try. I think you will be impressed with how slim it is. Now I have to get a big fish on there to give it a real world test.

The Sebile is a nice knot when tied ashore. Try it while out on a kayak off the beach.

The best knots are those you can almost tie with your eyes closed. The Uni is damn close. Even the Slim Beauty is tough to tie while on the water.

You really don't want any knot going through guides, regardless of how small.

X2 on poon rigs, but at home only. I don't think I could tie a bimini in a kayak.

Albright only for smaller rigs - quicker and easier in kayak.

You can tie a bimini on the water using one knee if you open the loop (to form the twist) by putting a couple fingers of the right hand inside the loop and applying pressure toward the standing line. A little tricky because the right hand is also holding the tag end, but very doable with practice.

Bimini to Albright for me as well (Tarpon Rig)

I agree with Rik about not letting knots go through guides. Asking for trouble (got enough already).

You can also substitute the bimini twist with a spider hitch if you are not comfortable tying the bimini in the kayak.

Do you really think a bimini twist is necessary when using braided line?

40 lb braid, 80 0r 60 lb leader, uni to a uni and a loop knot at the hook. 16 for 26 on tarpon this year using that simple set up, I try not to over think things.

Maybe not so much on the larger diameter lines. The smaller stuff, I recommend it. Have you ever made a cast and had your leader snap at the line/leader knot? The doubling of the braid keeps the knot from slipping and doesn't allow it to cut through the leader as easily as it spreads the tension better.

I've had broken leaders and I've had broken lines, but I have never had a broken Albright or broken double line.

In my three to four year brief fishing career I have never had a uni or loop knot fail. I have had leader breaks and even a braid brake (must have been damaged), but never the uni or loop. Never really used anything else so I don't know better. Can tie the uni in the kayak no problem.

Holy crap...I'm 0-2 in 3 trips.

Just curious - what are the rough sizes? I've only done a couple trips, so I'm guessing you are targeting year-round resident fish or go on poon marathons like old time whalers.

I started the bimini in 2006, but prior to that I just did as you do. It was mainly under the advice of another angler - abrasion resistance...
