2012 Spring Shrimp Run

Post by OzelloShrimper »

So, who is hitting the grass flats this year for the Spring shrimp run?

I'm looking forward to finally getting a bit of vacation in to take a few weeks off and do some fishing and shrimping.

Anyone else?

I didn't get a chance last year, will need to check out the best times and hope to get out there this year.

Here are day by day tidal and shrimping predictions: http://www.ozelloshrimper.com/info/tool ... index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The peak will be in May as usual but you will probably be able to start in late February to early March and shrimp through the first days of July.

What is the difference? Yes, they are good to eat just like any other shrimp.

They are not only edible but they are the exact same thing you can buy at Publix but free! You get a decent mix of all sizes too.

Not the same as you can buy, those shrimp are either from Thailand or caught deeper in the Gulf.

Try it. Its a lot of fun and would be great to do with your kids. The shrimp you can catch here are delicious. Very sweet tasting. Better IMO than the Gulf caught shrimp. I bought some local caught shrimp in Cedar Key that were out of this world good.

Should be a good year.. the shrimp trawlers were out on the flats around Ft D every night during this past full moon. Seen quite a few as well at night.

Shrimp run is in full swing here in SE area right now. but we do it differently.. we anchor up near structure, bridge pilings preferably, just before the high tide, set up lights, wait and hope.... Dip them up as they float by, smart and fast little sucker though, a double or tripple (2 or 3 in one scoop), is a bonus on a good night.
Limit is a 5 gallon bucket per boat, which if we are lucky happens once or twice each season.
The season for us is Dec - March and always varries, is never predictable.. so it could be a zero or one shrimp night, a 5 gallon limit and go hom, or a long night with a coupe gallons.

Now I have sen this Ozello shrimper device you guy use, looks slick.. but our grasslands are just not wade-able.
