Tagged Snook data

Post by Bigfish171 »

Received a letter today from John Hadden documenting the history of a tagged snook I reported to the FWC in May.
Interesting stuff, & pretty typical of other tagged snook I've caught.

This one, who I'll call MS09265, was captured & tagged at a 3/4 acre island on October 10th, 2010. MS09265 was 388mm (15-1/4") at that time.

Fast forward to March 30th, 2012. MS09265, now grown to a wopping 450.9mm (17-3/4") nailed my Zara Spook at the exact island where it was tagged 541 days earlier. Talk about a homebody!!

2.5" in 541 days? I always thought the growth rate for snook was faster than that.

Really interesting..... I would have thought Snook would grow quicker myself. That makes me wonder how old they can live to be? Do any of you guys know?

Maybe it was busy changing sexes...I know some guys who are still working on growing a pair and they're 40 years old - what's that 14600 days?

Looked it up and this is what I found.

Snook grow to 2 feet long in 4 years and 3 feet in 8 years.

They are not the most prolific fish and that is kind of why the regulations are so tight on them. They don't usually roam too far either except in and out to spawn.
