Braid reversing

Post by mrpj1972 »

Is it worth the hassle? What's your best method of de-spooling?

Done this 2 times before and both went well enough. Went out on a lake and tied off the line to a fence post. Just paddled away till I was out of line. Cut and reverse. Wouldn't do it in saltwater myself but it was easy enough.

You don't have any empty spare spools?

Nope. I have 2 rods & no spare spools. Was thinking I would just pull it off onto the floor then gently grab the pile and flip it over and wind it back on....

That sounds like wishful thinking with braid but a nightmare in reality.
Just curious why you want to reverse it? I'm guessing because of color fade?
I've never had a reason to reverse braid, I just use it until its gone.

WE have reversed lines by tieing the end onto a fence, walking to the other side of the yard and looping the line on the fence and then walking it out. Tie the end you want inside the spool and then wind in the remainder.

I reverse my braid and get about two and a half years outta one spool.
Cost effective!
I just stretch it out across the yard.........and then retie it on the other end and reel it back up under tension. New spool of line!
This is only good on heavy line though, as lighter lines (20lb and under) is just too thin and I always have backer mono under it anyway. But then..........I've gotten away from using braid under 40lb test on my baitcasters/ popping cork rod.

Please take several pictures of this process, video would be even better.

I built this to clean my fly lines, used it to do exactly what you're suggesting. Clamped the reel into my vise, clamped the cord winder to the workbench and cranked away.

Spend the $10 to get a spare spool.

You won't be sorry.

I usually spool it onto empty line spool.. then wrap onto another empty spool. then reel it back onto the reel. No knots or nothing.. Been doing it for years

I connect the empty spool to my drill. It will spool up your line fast.
