I fish from my SUP few times a week.

Pros: Excellent platform for sight fishing very calm days or nights
Lots of fun, good exercise
Cons: Poor for fishing in any wind. The board is hard to control, and you are a huge sail.
Most boards don't offer much as far as keeping your fishing gear contained. I end up bringing one rod
stuck in my belt, and a few lures in a box.
Traditional style boards (planing hulls) suffer from terrible hull slap when even the slightest chop is on the water.

I have caught some very nice fish from it, and have seen some incredible things from the high point of view that I typically don't get in my kayak. I do it mostly for exercise, and probably wouldn't take it up just for fishing purposes. That being said, I have a traditional, planing style board meant for general use. It is very stable and tracks well, but it is not designed for fishing specifically, and that is apparent. There are other options specifically designed for fishing that may work better. It seems as though DaveR is pretty happy with his Versa board. There are some companies like BOTE that are making some displacement style boards that may make some of my gripes non issues.

I have fished from a Versa board and love it but I push the weight capacity of 300lbs one I load all my gear. I love using it in the grass for tailing redfish. It gets a little wet at times when sitting down at my size, but I love it.

I got to watch DaveR in action on the versa for 2 days in the Everglades. That thing is the BOMB if a paddle board type solution is what you are looking for.

Best fishin "boat" I have ever owned. I was worried about speed before buying but it's not an issue. If I could dance I'd do a jig on it. It's that stable..

I took the plunge on a used Bote board flood and I love it for the most part. It's a great fishing platform (especially for fly fishing), great exercise, and a useful extra vessel to take friends on.

Plus this one is only 25lbs so it's great for short quick trips. I do have to say, however that I may be selling this one for one to replace it with a chined hull like the flood HD pretty soon. Bill Jackson's and a few other places have try out days on sat mornings an I'm interested to see how big of difference it makes in tracking, hull slap, and speed.

Rare I fish those days but if for some strange reason I do you're right. The Versa Board, or any paddle board wouldn't be the best choice. Big tarpon may present some issues as well as there is little to no gunwale to prevent them from giving me a lap dance.
For the majority of fishing I do though, I really like it.

One of these days we'll have to trade boats for a while. I thought it interesting when I first saw it some time back.

Didn't say it was cheap. Just think it is cool! Admit it - you want one.
