SHIMANO STRADIC FJ OR SHIMANO SARAGOSA

Post by MLB01 »

Need to purchase new spinning reel for inshore fishing. I know the Saragosa is designed to handle salt, but was wondering if the Stradic FJ was reliable in the salt. I want to find a reel to match up with a St Croix Avid inshore 7'0 Medium/Fast Action. Was considering either the 2500/3000 or 4000 series of either reel. Looks like the Saragosa is listed as a saltwater reel but heavier than the stradic.

Any advice would be appreciated.

According to Shimano the Stradic FJ is approved for use in saltwater.

I been using Stradics in salt water for many years never had a problem, just rinse it down well after use or exposure to salt air and you'll be good. Don't know all the models, but I have FG's, FH's, and a 4 FI's for sure all 3000 or 4000.

cool thing about the new stradic and sustain , is they have a oil port for the roller bearing , hit with a little reel x every once in a while and your are good to go.

 I just noticed myself...
Just so you all know, that's JohnD's pic thats shows the oil port. I found it on the Florida Sportsman site trying to see what he was talking about and thought I'd share the find.

The new Saros FA reels have the same oil port also. Definitely a great feature!
