Slayer 14.5...Nice Swim Platform

Post by Manning »

In my recent review of my new Slayer I noted that it felt a little unstable when the seat is in the high position. I should have reread that before going fishing today.

I got a small wind knot in my line about mid morning. I paddled up close to a nearby island to get out of the wind and see if I could fix it. I took my sunglasses off and place them in my lap to get a better look at the knot. Looked like I could fix it so I thought I would put in my stakeout poll to keep me there while I picked the knot. As I leaned over to put in the pin my sunglasses slipped off my lap into the water. They were very slowly sinking so I thought I could grab them. I reached over and as I did that little voice in the back of my head said "Oh shit!". I rolled the kayak over on its side which put me and most of my gear in the drink. I was only in about 2 feet of water and it was crystal clear. I gave the kayak a quick flip to right it and then gathered up my floating and sunk stuff. Got everything back except for my braid scissors and my knife that was clipped to may pocket. Have to say that it was a much easier process getting the Slayer going again than it was when I rolled the Ultimate. Advantage sit on vs. sit in. Oh yes, I caught a snook and flounder today.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

It really went over quick with not much warning. I think I will hold off on the Jon boat and outriggers, but another unplanned swim and I might be using the lower seat position.

All I can say about my Slayer is I have fallen in love with it. I love being able to stand and fish.
