I used the regular thread and not the ncp. The lighter bands are gold thread wrapped with the brown in a spiral.

New Small Stream Rod
Just finished a build of a new small stream rod. Lamiglas 7' 3wt. "Honey" blank, single foot snake guides, burled rosewood reel seat. This was my first experience using ProKote rod finish instead of Flex Coat. I liked working with it but it does take a lot longer to cure. Also the first ti...

Re: standing up in a kayak
I stand a lot in my Native 12' and at 60 years old, 5'10 and 220lbs am not the most mobile or coordinated. I built a platform to stand on that evens out the floor space since my feet would hurt standing in the depressions in the Native hull. It paddles fine but is not as fast or tracks quite as well...

Re: Ethics question
I never advocated using an 8 wt rather than a heavier rod if you are targeting tarpon. I was just responding to the original question and the following discussion. I can tell you if I only have an 8 wt and have a shot at some tarpon, I will take it with the idea of breaking them off. Over the years ...

Re: Ethics question
I personally have a problem with intentionally leaving any fish with the hook, be it a fly hook or not. Just doesn't sit right with me, to go out and chase fish with the intent of breaking them off and leaving them with something that could cause them issues later. Use the 11Wt and land them, if a ...

TFO BVK Fly Rods???
Anyone tried the new TFO BVK line of fly rods yet? I am using the Lefty Kreh Professional series and like them but would like something with a bit faster action. Any reviews?

Heading South of the equator on this trip? I'm usually stuck throwing #20 glass bead midges for trout in January... If I told you I wo...

Re: Hook removal technique
It really helps to have another person do the pulling. I had to do it once by tying the line to a cleat and yanking my hand. I did the "one, two, three" flinch about ten times before i finally made the move.

Re: Hook removal technique
I actually works very well, even with the barb deeply embedded. What he did not say in the video is that you need to be pushing down on the hook (toward your flesh) before and during the pullout. This releases the barb under the skin.
