I believe they are offshore spawning right now. The only size you should need, if you are "matching the hatch" is regular. But then again, don't take me seriously, I am an artificials only guy who is leaving to country to fish in cooler climes. What could I know?

If you'd really like to guide then may I make a few suggestions: 1. Learn how to judge techniques (e.g. casting, retrieving, fighting a fish and so on). Just because you can do it well does not mean you can recognize the same in others. 2. Learn how to critique a person's technique so they will happ...

Don't worry over your decision P13. You made it, now live with it. I know others have said they would have tossed a lure, so in contrast just remember the whole thing about discretion being the better part of valor.

Very nice, Dave. Glad to see you finally landed one with the long rod. Now that you have accomplished your goal are you going to stick with the long rod, or turn to spinning (or casting) gear? Also--very nice to see a report. There is no underlying pot-stirring, just cool to see good pics of you in ...

The flyrod skunk is over...

Finally landed my first fish with my flyrod (saltwater, anyway). Been wading a few times this week, and plenty of little fish were tugging on the tails of my flies, but until today I wasn't landing them. That all changed at the clam bar. I had been down there for about an hour and a half, and was ab...

Flyrod trouble?

I already posted something about this in the general forum, but I figured I would ask the experts. I was flyfishing and on my forward cast the top half of my rod took off with my line. I thought my rod had broken. Brought in my line and the top half had come off the bottom half. I immediately stoppe...

Yohan, Take into consideration the fact that I have never built a rod nor have I ever seen a "homemade" rod (to my knowledge). Couldn't you print your decal design on a piece of paper whose color compliments your rod, glue/affix the paper to the rod, put some finish wraps at each end of th...

Jim,

From what I can figure we walked at least ten miles round trip Sat a.m. looking for those snook. I wish it was my arms that were tired from catching so many fish instead of my legs on the trip home.

Noles, I pretty much get the gist of your setup, but is it possible to get a guided tour and see the workings in action? No joke, I'd love to see it all doing what it is it does. I've never seen a rod built before and I would love to. --tom (anyone else who builds rods & lives near 54th Ave. N. ...

Spinning rods have larger "eyes" (actually called guides) so there is not too much friction between the line and the guide. A spinning reel winds the line around the spool and needs the greater diameter to work better. Casting rods have smaller guides because the line only goes back and fo...
