Re: opinions please
I concur with Norm on the Daiwa Advantage. One of mine went overboard at high tide, late evening (something to do with my passenger / son :)) and I couldn't find it. I went out at low tide the next morning, luckily found it, and it was good. Had it cleaned and lubed to be safe and it still works lik...

Re: Reel Maintenance
I typically use Holy Mackerel Tackle in Pinellas Park. Have never been disappointed.

Re: Thinking of moving up in the kayak world
I bought a Native 14.5 tandem about 6 months ago, my initial thought process being that I would use it when I wanted to take my kids out, go camping, or just needed a change of pace. My other kayak is a OK Prowler 15; I've had it a few years and have always been very happy with it (still am). The th...

Re: Trout out West
Thanks Evan - Great feedback. I've read a little about the Henry's Forke and N. Platte in John Geirach's books, and yes, they are both on the list. Man, like I said, so much to choose from. I'll probably end up going to a a couple places. Lots of time to read, solicit comments, and plan it out. Than...

Re: Trout out West
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! GGW: Alaska is definitely on my list, but probably a few years off. Mike, I'll look up the guides that you mentioned - thanks for the referrals. I still plan to stick with the guides only while on the drift boats though (at least as of now). I have no doubt that I'...

Trout out West
Almost every spring, I head up to the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate NY to fly fish for trout in the Ausable and Saranac Rivers. Next year I've decided to do something different and plan to head out west with my brother in late June or early July. The thing is, there is just too much to choose from...

Re: Possible Ban On Lead Sinker!
The sale of lead split shot (all lead sinkers under 1/2 oz actually) has been banned in NY since 2004. They have not since banned rods, reels, line, and waders. The other stuff, at that size, works just as well. The rivers are happier. It's just not a big deal.

Re: New entry fee for Fort Desoto
I pretty much agree with Todd entirely. In regards to attendance, Honeymoon Island charges $2 per person or $8 a car load; based on the # of people at the beach last weekend, I think people feel that it's money well spent (and don't forget, no need to pay for parking or drive in circles trying to fi...

Sorry, but it just doesn't make any sense to bring a gun fishing or to a sporting event when you know that you are going to leave it in the car. Leave it at home, especially considering the number of break-ins at kayak launches. I grew up in the country. Learned to shoot when I was about 12. There w...
