Finally making it home for a week or so.
I am finally going to be home for a week or so this coming weekend. Hopefully the kayak is still in good shape, and the fishing gear is ready to go. After being gone for the better part of 9 months, save for about 2 weeks, I am hoping to be out on the water again. Oh, and it will be nice to see the ...

Re: Lionfish caught off of Anna Maria Island
I see them nearly every time I am diving the reef in the Keys. Then I let Reef.org know where I saw them, and let them try to go find the.
This one I was told was a juvenile, since it was still black. That was in June, Off of Islamorada.

Re: New kayak
I only got to paddle it out in the canals by my house for a couple hours before I had to go back out of town for work. The wife took it out Sunday, and said it was fine. It is very similar to the Redfish 12 that I have. And yes, I could stand in it. Pros: Price Paddles easy, even with the supplied p...

Stinkpot report, with photos
Went down to Islamorada with a group of guys on our annual fishing trip. Just a few photos. Everything was taken on artificials, except the triple tail, that was cut bait. And if you do stay at Big Pine Lodge, or the KOA on Sugarloaf, don't forget to make a trip to No Name Pub, and to Mangrove Mamas. On your way down, you can stop at Robbies Marina (MM77 or so, bay side) and feed the tarpon.

New kayak
I had a friend call me yesterday, he has been looking for a kayak. He saw one in Sams Club. We went up this morning, he and I both bought one. With tax, $277. It is a 12 foot, sit-on-top. Meriwether Explorer. Two rod holders in the back, comes with a paddle, and foam blocks and straps for transporti...

Stinkpot Week Long Dolphin Report
About twenty guys came down to Islamorada to do some Dorado fishing. Day 1, 13Jun2009. Our boat ran out to 130ft of water early in the morning, about 6:30. We saw some grasslines and picked up an undersized schoolie on a green/yellow skirted hoo. Nothing else running under the weeds, so we moved out...

All the same exemptions that are in place for the existing fishing licenses are, sadly, still in place. I'm glad they finally came around and initiated this license. I do not understand why it is less money or a different license. Just another level of complexity but, then again, the govt has never...

Don't we pay for our use of the resource by buying a license and with every dollar we spend on fishing gear? Yes, and as for the license, that is one reason all saltwater fisherman should be licensed, not just boat fisherman, in my opinion. The feds dole out the excise tax money based on fishing li...

An inaccessible life jacket is already against the law and the whistle is already required. I'd hate to see more regulations. The statistics simply do not show that any more safety requirements are necessary for paddle craft. The population of paddle craft has drastically increased over the past 10...

I think some more safety awareness, on top of when cutting across channels, would be in order. Mostly the standard boating stuff, plus a paddle leash. I know some people have no intention to go out over 4 or 5 feet of water, but many people end up there, due to lost paddles, and then have an inacces...
