My two cents. Feathered paddle upwind, unfeathered at all other times. Downwind is nice with an umbrella, as Rick has demonstrated to me in the past. Just a couple of observations well earned over the last decade.

I use Homer Rhode's Loop Knot. 50% strength (doesn't matter when the leader is much heavier than the line). It's so easy to tie and haven't had one slip ever (been using it for at least 10yrs). Ties reliably in every leader size, I've used it up to 100lb mono and flouro. It can be found on page 56/5...

John, I like plain old white decievers and clousers, add flash to taste. More flash for stained water. Chartreuse with an olive back, some peacock hurl if you prefer something more visual.
