Shortening a rod - change action?

Post by catfish308 »

I was reading the F.A.Q section and read the article on shortening the butt of a rod. I have a rod I would like to do this to but was wondering if this will change the action of the rod any?

Thanks,

Eric

Virtually no change. It'll feel different to fish with - especially if your are a two handed caster - just because you shortened it but the action really doesn't change.
Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley

I have shortened a couple "steelhead" rods by taking about 5" off the butt end. The action is the same, but the balance was off a bit. I got some "crutch ends" from the hardware store and played with the weight by adding a washer or 2. When it felt right, I epoxied the end on. Just use a good cut-off wheel to make the cut.
Yes, I can get 20 feet of Pontoon boat equipment on a 16 foot Pontoon boat....

That's good to hear. I hate how it catches my shirt and really didn't want to start into rod builing right now. Although it is on my to do list.
