A Few Rods...

Post by Gramps »

Well this is my first time posting a build. The first one up is a 7'6" Lamiglas spinning rod, gunsmoke sic guides, royal blue wraps & natural/rubberized and craft foam grips. Almost forgot, black walnut reel seat insert.

Second, is Cisco's rod! Turned out great and I did not want to sell it, but the he "says" he loves it and that is what counts, right? This is also a 7'6" Lamiglas blank, burned cork, Fuji alconite guides, black wraps with four turn candy apple red trim and black/red tiger wrap in the split grip with a Fuji balancing butt cap.

These pics are bad because I didn't get a chance to photo them in the sun, damn day job got in the way. Maybe Cisco can get some better photos....

I love this stuff!

Nice work Scott. The walnut insert on the spinning rod was a nice touch. I rarely see that on a spinning rod.

Yeah, very nice man! The cork looks good with that tigerseye blank!

Nice work. My first rods I built didn't look anywhere near that nice.

I too like that walnut insert.

After the tourney Sat. I told Scott, this rod is so sensitive, I can feel a fish fart on my lure. I matched it with a Shimano/Symetre 2500 FI reel spooled with 10# test SpiderWire "Ultra Cast". What an incredible difference from my old, store bought rods.

Bang-up job Gramps! :D

I'll get some pics up soon.

Nice looking rods!

Do you guys see any problems with the wooden inserts in salt water? My freshwater fly rods all have nice looking wood in the reel seat, but I've not seen that done on salt rods.

Thanks for all of the kind words guys. Catching a fish with a rod you built is a great feeling.

I sealed the insert with CA/Super Glue. The body was turned down just a few hairs under the final od and then built up with layers of glue. So, I think it should keep the water out.
