Harbor Freight 40" x 48" trailer w/ 12" wheels ($229). For the tongue extension I bought a 9' piece of square steel tube ($40) from the local metal shop. Removed the standard extension and drilled matching holes in the new piece. I still have to sand, prime and paint the new extension. The keel sits on a V-block from West Marine. The bow end sits on one of those basic foam kayak blocks from the local shop. A couple straps cinch it all down.
It's worked very well so far. I can wheel it fully loaded into the back yard no problem and it fits through a standard double gate. I used it to haul a stove up to Gainesville recently – 75mph, no problems. We'll see how long it lasts. If I can get a couple years out of it until I'm ready for a new truck that's all I'm looking for.
No really, that's nice. Can I make a suggestion? Put some kind of fiberglass rod on the back or front of the kayak so you can see (maybe you can already) when backing up.

Yeah, I thought I would paint the trailer gray so everything matches.

It does need some kind of post back there. I can see it fine with the kayak loaded, but backing just the trailer down I have to use the side mirrors. As long as I can't see it in them I'm doing OK. The first couple tries it must have looked like a big topwater zig-zagging down the ramp. Short trailers turn quick.
